FRENCH MARKET SURVEILLANCE REPORT ON SUPERMARKET EPOS SYSTEMS

The French authorities have recently carried out market surveillance projects on EPOS systems in supermarkets. More than 8500 NAWIs were controlled, located on around 2700 sites. About 30% of the instruments were found to be non-complaint and about 17% of the non-compliances related to the communication between the POS and the Weighing Instrument. It is felt that this is symptomatic of the problem in many member states and it is important to remember that the legal requirements relate to the entire weighing system. We must remind our customers of this obligation and that they often cannot make changes to any parts of an EPOS system without a re-verification taking place.
