| M The second group of students are already well on their way to completing their course in the weighing aspects of legal metrology. The course, which started last year, is a joint training initiative between the UK Weighing Federation and the University of Wales in Cardiff (UWIC).
Most of the training takes place in a virtual learning environment via a dedicated web site and students provide evidence of competence through an assessed logbook of activity. The course covers a comprehensive range of subjects over the four months work based learning period including practical and legal aspects of weighing and associated equipment. New for this session, students now also attend regional day seminars where they cover key issues in a classroom environment, allowing them to meet other students and the course supervisor Andy Hayward.
The course, which culminates in a National Certificate of Competence, has attracted weighing personnel from all disciplines including service engineers, apprentices and even managing directors. |
