RoHS Regulations 2012

29th Nov 2012

Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Regulations 2012

These regulations will come into force on the 2nd January 2013 and will implement the RoHS Directive of 2011/65. The important effect of this is that monitoring and control instruments will need to comply with the requirements of this directive by 22nd July 2014.

This category will include weighing instruments, so if you do not already comply with this directive you have until this date to ensure compliance.

It is important to note that the obligation will apply to all economic operators in the supply chain including importers and distributors. The directive has been aligned with the new legislative framework. The framework of this directive will be the same as the NAWI and the MID directive when the alignment process for these directives is completed.

There has been a harmonised standard published for the Directive EN 50581:2012. If your weighing instrument complies with this standard it will be presumed that they comply with the requirements of the Directive.

I attach a copy of the UK Guidance Notes on the Regulations and a FAQ completed by the EU Commission.
