UKWF OBJECTIVES
The UKWF's objectives guide and drive all of our activities. They are:
- To act on regulatory matters emerging at UK, EC and International level
- To sustain good relations and continuous dialogue with all levels of Government agencies and professional bodies
- To promote and improve the understanding of modern weighing technology, thereby improving the quality of service given to customers
UKWF ACTIVITIES
The UK Weighing Federation (UKWF) is the national trade association for the weighing industry. We work closely with various organisations in the UK to represent the interests of our members, including:
- The Department for Business and Trade
- The Office for Product Safety and Standards
- Local Authorities
- The National Measurement Office
- The Chartered Trading Standards Institute
- The British Standards Institute
- GAMBICA
- MAKE UK
We are regularly consulted on metrological matters and participate in joint activities with these various bodies. Our Technical Officer has a wealth of experience and regularly represents the industry at national and international levels and is available to members for technical advice.
In addition to our UK activities, UKWF is a very active member of CECIP, the European Federation of Weighing Machine Manufacturers, to ensure we can understand and shape the changing regulatory landscape after the UK’s exit from the EU.
We strive to maintain and raise standards within our industry through regular briefings, codes of conduct with internal auditing, technical bulletins and webinars, and regional member meetings.
In 2023, the UKWF developed and launched a Legal Metrology Certificate training programme, demonstrating our commitment to skills and training in our industry. We will soon be offering a Legal Metrology Apprenticeship Training Module.
